ANTHONY BEEVOR – born in 1946. A British historian. Studied under the famous historian of the World War II, John Keegan. Beevor is a former officer with 11 Hussars who served in England and Germany for 5 years before resigning his commission. He has published several popular histories on the Second World War and 20th century in general.
His best known works are "Stalingrad" (Samuel Johnson Prize, Wolfson History Prize, Hawthornden Prize for literature) and "Berlin – The Downfall 1945" (Longman-History Today Trustee’s Award). They have been praised for their vivid, compelling style, their treatment of the ordinary lives of combatants and civilians and the use of newly disclosed documents from the Soviet archives. Berlin – The Downfall 1945 has encountered heavy criticism in Russia.
Concept: Soldier is not the one who desires to kill, but the one who accepts the image of fear that exists in his epoch, be it the ancient times, or the times of the modern asymmetrical warfare. |
